BRANTFORD, October 7, 2014 – Peter Ham, President and General Manager of the Brantford Blast, is thrilled to announce today that they have promoted Darren Watson to Assistant General Manager of the hockey club. He was previously the Trainer and Assistant Coach of the team, both roles which he will keep for the upcoming season.

Watson, a Paris resident, joined the Blast in 2010 as Trainer and in 2012 was also promoted to Assistant Coach behind playing Head Coach Mike Burgoyne. As the Assistant Coach he helped lead the Blast to a record of 36-9-1-2 and two Robertson Cup Provincial Senior AAA Championships over the past two seasons.

Through playing hockey ever since he was just seven years old and more recently coaching with the Blast, Watson has always shown a strong passion for Canada’s game. Darren can also be found working full time as an Account Executive at Mark’s Supply in Brantford which is a Plumbing, HVAC and Industrial Supply Wholesaler. He has proudly served as a volunteer firefighter since 2000 for the County of Brant Fire Department at Station 1 in Paris. He was recently promoted to Acting Captain.

Darren currently resides in Paris with his wife of 18 years Heather and their English Bulldog, Major. Prior to joining the team you could see Blast super fan Darren in the stands alongside his wife, Mom and Dad, and Uncle in the stands at the Civic Centre. They all continue to attend the games in support of the Blast, but the only difference is Darren is now behind the bench.

“Darren has been such a tremendous asset to this organization in a wealth of different roles over the past four seasons. We look forward to him continuing to showcase his knowledge and passion for the game of hockey in the role of Assistant General Manager this season and beyond,” said Blast Owner/GM Peter Ham.

“I’m very excited to embrace this new opportunity as Assistant GM of the Blast. I look forward to working alongside Peter Ham and the rest of the Blast Family as we begin our quest to bring home an Allan Cup Championship for our great fans in Blast Nation,” said Watson in a statement.
